Aguilera Looking For Sophomore Success
Christina Aguilera's much anticipated sophomore album is likely to be a hit with the critics and crowds alike. Boasting an edgier sound and self-written lyrics this CD should end comparisons between Aguilera and bubblegum queen Britney Spears.
It's been nearly two years since the release of Aguilera's self-titled debut disc. Which was home to #1 hits like Genie In A Bottle, What A Girl Wants and Come On Over Baby. This former Mousketeer has risen to a Grammy winning, multi-platinum pop pwerhouse.
In the time since her entrance into the music world Aguilera has proven successful in both the English and Latin fields. She released Mi Reflejo an album done entirely in Spanish which she says reflects her father's Ecuadoran roots. Aguilera has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including BB King, Brian McKnight, Sting, Rcky Martin and most recently Pink, Mya and Lil Kim on their #1 smash Lady Marmalade. ...Not bad for a 20 year old.
While most her age are working odd jobs to pay their way through college Aguilera is carving her niche in the entertainment business. The outlook is very good for her newest record. She has expanded her horizons musically and gained new and excited fans. There's nowhere for this young and talented beauty to go except up.

Moulin Rouge's 'Lady Marmalade' Makes History
LOS ANGELES, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- A live action musical might have a hard road to travel at the mainstream movie box office but MUSIC FROM BAZ LUHRMANN'S FILM MOULIN ROUGE (Twentieth Century Fox/Interscope Records) is proving to have surprising "legs" thanks to its intriguing -- and now history-making -- hip-hop-pop teaming of platinum superstars Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and Pink.
Topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the fourth consecutive week, their cover of the LaBelle '70s smash "Lady Marmalade" (produced by Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott and Rockwilder) has become the first airplay-only track in history to stay at #1 for more than one week. Only two other tracks not available as singles have even reached #1 ("Try Again" from Aaliyah and "Angel" from Shaggy featuring Rayvon). In addition, its outrageously colorful video continues to rank near the top in spins at MTV and is being seen regularly on VH-1 and BET.
Meanwhile, the album is ranked #4, crossing the platinum plateau with well over a million records shipped. Released May 8, 2001, MUSIC FROM BAZ LUHRMANN'S FILM MOULIN ROUGE also features David Bowie, Fatboy Slim, Beck, Massive Attack, Rufus Wainwright, Valeria and others (including the film's stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in their on-screen and soundtrack singing debuts).

Sexy Stockings At MTV Movie Awards
Forget the winners - the highlight of the MTV Movie Awards was led by Christina Aguilera who donned stockings and suspenders for the event's sexiest performance.
Christina was joined on stage by singers Lil' Kim, Pink and Mya, who were all dressed up in lacy undies for a rousing rendition of "Lady Marmalade" from Moulin Rouge.

Christina makes list of Irish America Magazine's
'Top 100 Irish In America'
There are girls who scream at the sight of a mouse, and then there are
girls who count the little rodents among their best friends.
Christina Aguilera might not be mad about mice in general, but she
must be feeling more than a little kindly disposed towards one particular
mouse - the guy they call Mickey.
After all, it was on the New Mickey Mouse Club television show that
Christina, then only 12, got her first big break.
Now the former Mouseketeer is up there with the best of them, singing
her heart out alongside such teen faves as Britney Spears and 'N Sync.
In June of 1999, her self-titled debut album was released, selling over 10
million copies worldwide and garnering her a Grammy Award last year
as the Best New Artist.
She followed that up with a Spanish-language album titled 'Mi Reflejo'
and 'My Kind of Christmas,' a collection of holiday favorites.
Yes, teen pop stars are a dime a dozen these days, but Christina - who
recently turned 20 - has already marked herself out among the critics.
'Aguilera has always boasted the most powerful and distinctive voice of
the current adolescent wave she's the one current teen star who seems
built to last,' raved the New York Daily News.
The Boston Globe reckons she was born to the stage, while the
Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote, 'She has the best voice of the bunch -
big, rich, soulful.'
Of Ecuadoran and Irish descent, Christina traces her Irish heritage back
through her mother, Shelly Kearns.
